GARAGE MAG GOES RETRO WITH EDITA VILKEVICIUTE

Sunday, April 29, 2012

For their Spring/Summer 2012 issue, Garage Magazine is channeling their inner retro vibe with this super beautiful, 70s-esque spread starring Lithuanian model Edita Vilkeviciute. Upon first glance, I immediately though of legendary Prussian muse, Veruschka, a golden-haired vixen who bears striking resemblance to Vilkeviciute in this spread. Shot by Patrick Demarchelier with a bold contrast of vivid colors - very fitting of the disco decade - Edita poses in assortment of bold ensembles, like pieces made entirely of colorful flowers or Louis Vuitton bloomers covered in eyelet monograms. Bronzed skin, big earrings, and little bathing suits...sigh...what an era!

ECLECTIC METHOD'S GUNS ON GUNS ON GUNS...

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Eclectic Method is a super dope site I recently came across - though I've seen their work online before - which takes an endless database of TV and movie clips and edits them with music to create totally one-of-a-kind videos. For example, if a musically orchestrated visual collection of every zombie ever seen on the big screen is something you're into, these are the guys to call - as seen > here! But if the sound of shots firing and barrels being loaded is more your cup of tea, they got you covered there too. Introducing GUNS, a very aptly named short which features just that - an aesthetically awesome (and totally danceable) ode to some of Hollywood's best shooting scenes. Like their site says, "it's the best of both worlds...the girls can dance, and the guys can watch TV".

HIGH FASHION SALAD DAYS

Monday, April 16, 2012

The New York Times fashion-based T Magazine just released this super-vibrant editorial aptly titled Salad Days, where models Hanne Gaby Odiele and Julia Nobis strike their fiercest poses while donning vegetables and fresh fish. Lensed by Richard Burbidge, the spread is like a compost fantasy come to life, where sprinkles are worn as body glitter and portobello mushrooms hang from their necks like giant pendants.  Crawfish on the McQueen? Now that's avant-garde.

WONDERLAND MAGAZINE'S TRAILER PARK PRINCESS

Thursday, April 12, 2012

For their newest April/May issue, Wonderland magazine is playing with the juxtaposition of high fashion and trailer-park kitsch to create a super-fun, Americana style editorial. Starring Danish beauty Josephine Skriver and set in a generic motorhome lot, the stern-faced blonde sports the usual big hair, heavy eyeliner, and colorfly thrown-together outfits - just with an unexpectedly haute touch of Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. Not bad for a country gal...

MARIE CLAIRE CHINA'S LIL BAKESHOP

Thursday, April 05, 2012

Ever since Louis Vuitton released their super-sweet Spring 2012 ads inspired by cutesy 50s diners & ice-cream parlors, it seems as though the whole fashion industry is scrambling to replicate the retro vibe in some way. In fact, Marie Claire China even came under fire this month after releasing a pictorial with almost the exact same outfits and theme seen in the Louis version. Blatant copying aside, I'm still a total sucker for these types of editorials - all the pastry and pastels are just irresistible, especially now that it's spring. Check out the video version shot by Amber Grey below, it's delicious...
